For quite some time Lithium-Ion batteries have been in the market and most of us use these batteries in our mobile phones, laptops and other house hold electronic devices.
Recently the demand for Lithium batteries has increased by multiple folds as well as their applications. Nowadays more people realise the importance of an Electric Vehicle for the sake of our environment and for its economical benefits.
Existing major percentage of EV’s use Lithium batteries.
The chemistry of Lithium-Ion is state-of-the-art cathode materials include lithium-metal oxides [such as LiCoO2, LiMn2O4, and Li (NixMnyCoz)O2], vanadium oxides, olivines (such as LiFePO4), and rechargeable lithium oxides.
Layered oxides containing cobalt and nickel are the most studied materials for lithium-ion batteries.
The Lithium-Ion Batteries has its own advantages. Lithium-ion batteries have the highest energy density among all rechargeable battery types in the market. This means that charging a lithium-ion is relevantly easier and takes a shorter time. The size and weight of a Lithium-Ion battery is lesser than a conventional Lead Acid battery and result is increase in mileage and performance of the vehicle. They are lighter, have a slower discharge rate, and perform better in cold temperatures. The life cycle of an average Lithium-Ion cell is from 500-1000 charging cycles.
